B.C. resident Danielle Buchanan is a certified professional coach at Soul Survivor Coaching, and she shares with me her involvement with Sole Girls and their organization.
Here is our Q&A:
Q: Tell us your involvement with Sole Girls and their organization?
A: I have been involved with Sole Girls since the Spring of 2014. I found running helped me with my anxiety and confidence and when I heard about Sole Girls I knew this community was for me. Sole Girls is so much more than a running club it truly empowers girls in all areas of their lives. It is amazing what 9 weeks can do for our confidence! Being a Sole Girls coach is truly a rewarding experience when I see the girls who are shy start opening up and letting their inner awesome shine it is extremely rewarding! I am a Certified Professional Coach and I have my BA in Psychology which is very helpful when coaching the girls. I wish there was a program like this when I was younger. I suffered from low self esteem and anxiety and this program would have definitely helped me. Today I get to let my inner 10 year old out and run, jump and skip down the road with the girls! I love what I do!
Q: What are your plans for your partnership with Lorna Jane clothing?
A: I will be coaching out of Lorna Jane on Thursdays starting April 6 to June 1st from 3:45-5:30. For more information please go to our website: www.solegirls.org
Q: What do you enjoy most about your role with Sole Girls?
A: We are extremely happy to be running the program at Lorna Jane’s Gastown location. Lorna Jane philosophy is all about active living which aligns well with Sole Girls philosophy towards the importance of getting outside and being active.
Q: What do you hope to achieve with your partnership with Lorna Jane?
A: What I enjoy most with my role at Sole Girls is watching a young girl age 8-12 realize that she is not alone and that all girls experience issues relating to anxiety, confidence and friendship to name a few. I hope to keep running Sole Girls outside of Lorna Jane’s Gastown location! I am hoping to spread the word to all families living in Vancouver to get their amazing daughter’s enrolled in this empowerment program.
Q: What is next for you?
A: What is next for me is more Sole Girls coaching and training for my first ever triathlon this May! I love setting goals and surrounding myself around others who inspire me to get out of my comfort zone! Of course I will be sporting a Sole Girls triathlon suite which we have put positive affirmation words on.
This is my favourite quote because it resonates with me very well about my passion and purpose in life. I am honoured to be able to coach young girls to be their best selves.
