Do you need a dose of motivation to help kick start your exercise regime? Then why not choose to start your road to a healthier lifestyle by participating in this Sunday’s Break Free 5Km event starting at 9:30 am at the Stanley Park Pavilion.
The “Break Free 5km fun run/walk event is for all levels of abilities and open to everyone who want to engage in a healthy and active lifestyle – it is an unique 5km event that will feature optional play stations such as the Super soaker gauntlet and Spider web. Each of these play stations can reminds us that living a healthy lifestyle can be fun, social and allows the participant to play along the way.
Runners or walkers have the option of raising funds to support the Canadian Cancer Society and cancer prevention. According to the Canadian Cancer Society about half of all cancers can be prevented through healthy living and policies that protect the health of Canadians.
The fun event is also the signature celebratory “run” for participants of the ten-week, Run to Quit program offered by the Canadian Cancer Society, Running Room and the Public Health Agency of Canada. Lyz Gilgunn, Health Promotion Coordinator for the Canadian Cancer Society, says the event celebrates the Run to Quit programs’ graduation, marking an entry into a healthy, smoke-free life for many. “For participants this is their moment to shine and cross the finish line after training to walk or run a 5km as part of their quit smoking journey.” Visit runtoquit.com for more information.
